Breastfeeding is an incredible superpower and a deeply unique and personal experience for everyone who does it. We each bring our own set of values, beliefs, and desires to feeding our babies, but those beliefs and wishes can sometimes be challenged by our own physiology, that of our babies, or by healthcare providers who would rather give easy answers than customized care. That’s where lactation support comes in and can be absolutely vital to helping parents achieve their feeding goals.
In addition to the Lactation for Doulas training I’ve received at the Sierra Doula Academy (formerly Sierra Childbirth Institute), I’ve decided to extend my lactation training and am working towards a CLC (certified lactation counselor) certification through the Center for Breastfeeding, part of the Healthy Children Project. I’m scheduled to complete my training in December 2025 and will begin offering lactation support in 2026. In the meantime, I’m able to provide some basic support and can make referrals to recommended IBCLCs as needed.
I’m so excited to begin offering this service in the coming year. Stay tuned!
